I've always liked the look of those big, vintage light bulbs - sure you can buy them ready made for crazy money, but if you duck down to your local hardware place, you can do it yourself for a fraction of the cost.
You'll need:
- Light bulb (ORLY?)
- Plug
- 3 way socket
- Rubber covered wire
- Hooks
We grabbed the above bits and pieces from Home Depot for under $25.
Measure out the amount or rubber wire you'll need and if you feel like getting fancy, get extra so you can have some loose loops hanging from the ceiling. Ooh la la!
Next, wire up your plug and 3 way socket. The internet can help you do this. Here's a handy link: How to wire up a light bulb socket.
Oooh, so pretty!
Assuming you don't have an electrical socket on the ceiling (but good for you if you do), the spot directly above your socket where the wall meets the ceiling is where you'll place your first hook.
Then place the rest of your hooks along the ceiling until you reach the spot where you'd like your bulb to hang. No rules, use as many hooks as you need (we used 3 all up. One by the wall, one in the middle and one where we wanted the bulb). Then run your wire through the hooks and you're finished. HIGH FIVE.
